✨ obsolete ✨
But hey, look on the bright side - not only will we tell you when it was retired, but we will let you know how old it was when the cruel cruel obsolete gods took it. If you're lucky, there might even be a replacement app for the service you wanted. That's even rarer than a printer that works on the first try.
Replacement: No formal replacement
What it did: Roundcube was an experimental email client that was briefly experimented with.
Why it got retired: Roundcube simply did not make enough sense to keep online, it did not replace mailcows UI, and was just another app, as such it was unfortunately retired the same day it was introduced.
Age when formally retired: 0 days
Replacement: Pelican
What it did: Pterodactyl was a game server management UI, commanding several "wings", and making management and creation much easier than manual configuration.
Why it got retired: Pterodactyl started life on the wrong foot. Very complex, and without any SSO integration capabilities. Whilst the app itself worked fine, and lived through the first 3 major identity changes on the network, its survival was short-lived, and replaced by Pelican, simply for its SSO integrations.
Age when formally retired: 32 days
Replacement: Technitium
What it did: Pihole was never put into production, due to acting primarily as an adblocker, not a true DNS provider.
Why it got retired: Although installed and configured, Pihole simply did not act as a full DNS provider, as the project required at the time..
Age when formally retired: 12 days
Replacement: Technitium
What it did: Adguard was never put into production, due to acting primarily as an adblocker, not a true DNS provider.
Why it got retired: Although installed and configured, Adguard Home simply did not act as a full DNS provider, as the project required at the time.
Age when formally retired: 12 days
Replacement: Authentik
What it did: Keycloak was intended to be used as an SSO/2FA provider for applications, however heavily enterprise focused.
Why it got retired: Due to Keycloaks strong enterprise focus, it made it hard and unreasonable for a single person to create and manage applications on it, hence it was replaced by authentik, which while less powerful is easier to setup.
Age when formally retired: 12 days
Replacement: Not made public
What it did: Unknown. Some sources indicate they provided support to obsolete hardware, software, and firmware. Urban lengend says they were responsible for items becoming obsolete.
Why it got retired: Unknown. It is hypothesised that a lack of funds, and an inexperienced marketing director caused the division to fall out of agency favour, and was a victim of its own purpose.
Age when formally retired: 71 years and 154 days
